“Arise the holy trinity: The Money, The Trade and The Industry. Blessed be the forgotten, may they ever know their part.”

SONG A WEEK w25: This one went full 80s on my butt. Starting out that way with that bassline, it simply refused to move out of 1983 mode. The pace and riff suggested a timelapse shot of a busy city commute to me, so that’s where the lyric went as well. I was thinking specifically about how in Cape Town, where I live, the geography of the city reflects so much politically and economically.

The blood that stirs
In the fingers and the toes
That is the life
Of the city starts to flow

Arise the holy trinity
The Money, The Trade and The Industry
Blessed be the forgotten
May they ever know their part

No home for serenity
No faith for a memory
No truth for identity
how much can you take?

This is the year
Of the bold entrepreneur
This is the cake
That we swallow every year

No home for serenity
No faith for a memory
No truth for identity
how much can you take?
